Take two Brooklyn girls out of New York City; place them on a five generation farm in the middle of Randolph County, North Carolina. Add to this mix seven
alpacas, and the Old Plank Road Alpacas is truly a work in progress. Each day brings a new learning experience.
Nadine “Dee” Scafidi retired to North Carolina after 30 years with Citibank and is adapting to country living and is at home with her alpacas and Salina, her
cat. She looks forward to relaxing with her fishing rod.
Margaret Foust relocated in 1981 to her Native American roots on a tract of land that has been in her family since 1872. She is currently licensed as an
Alternative Family Living home, providing a loving home for a special needs adult. She enjoys antiques while exploring her Native American culture.
The farm is located on the Old Plank Road, which was the main road from Virginia to Fayetteville in the 1800’s. Also located on the property is an old section
house, which once housed Norfolk Southern Railroad employees.
Margaret and her husband, Arnold are members of the Norfolk Southern Railroad Historical Society and, with the guidance of the Society, are hoping to restore the building as tourist attraction.
We are within a short distance to the North
Carolina Zoological Park, as well as the Seagrove
Area Potteries. If you’re ever in our
neck of the woods, stop by and see what
we’re learning today.
