Having grown up on farms in Kentucky, we (Bill and Cathy) were born to be farmers although our earlier life together took us into the fields of engineering and sales. While we raised 4 children, we dreamed of a place in the country where our grandchildren could run and play and experience the fun and the work of farm life. When our children were almost grown and began their own lives, and we neared retirement age, Bill looked for a place to get away and play with a tractor and a truck. Cathy wanted a place for a garden and a little farm house to decorate and where making cookies with the kids would always be an option.
Well, in 1993, we found twelve acres of land and an old house that begged for some tender loving care, and we jumped in with both feet. Our son Scott had just married his sweetheart, Jennifer, and they helped remodel the house so they could live there until we were ready to move. Although a city girl from California, Jennifer soon grew to enjoy country living. In 1999, Scott and Jenn built a house "next door", and we began to plan for our move to the country. After some more major remodeling and selling our home in town, we moved to "the farm". We started our investigation of alpacas in August 2003, and that was the beginning of a wild, exciting new adventure. There was so much to learn, but once again, we jumped in with both feet, and we have been so glad we did. Since then we have: * built fences and shelters * purchased quality breeding stock with great bloodlines and in a variety of colors * developed a health management program in conjunction with a veterinarian who specializes in camelids * joined national and state alpaca associations and attended shows and clinics to further our education and stay current on health and management issues and industry trends * maintained herd health records in a software program * developed a working relationship with other breeders and owners in several states. Now, here we are with a website which we hope you will enjoy and will visit often. Even better, contact us and come visit our farm. Play with our animals, ask questions, and learn the potential for whatever piece you decide you want of this exciting and fun lifestyle. We love sharing our experiences and are dedicated to helping the new breeder or investigator to make wise choices as they decide just what they want to accomplish. We have been blessed to have had the generous help of other breeders and owners and want to continue to share the dream. |
