ABOUT CELESTINE RIDGE ALPACAS AND THE KITTRELLS
Celestine Ridge Alpacas is located just minutes off of US 264 in Eastern North Carolina. This is a family owned and operated business with each one of us playing an important role in the daily operation of the farm.
Heidi is the main character in this venture. A Veterinary Technician with extensive experience in both large and small animals with an emphasis in Intensive Care and Oncology. Heidi has managed Equine boarding and breeding facilities as well. She is the token Yankee of the bunch. She has been in the animal healthcare industry since 1978. Heidi and Jim have elected to homeschool their three boys and alpacas fit very well into the homeschool environment. Heidi is enjoying exploring the fiber aspect of this industry, and is working toward her ABFS Accreditation. She regularly attends other educational opportunities.
Jim is the quiet overseer of operations. He is a veterinarian with the NCDA & CS. Jim had been in a mixed animal practitioner for several years prior. He has been in the animal healthcare industry since 1976. Since we are all open to learning more and what’s new in the camelid world, Jim regularly attends continuing educational opportunities. Jim has attended the Camelid Medicine Conference at OSU in 2004 and 2006. He has also attended Norm Evans and Toni Cotton Veterinary conferences as well as other industry seminars. Jim enjoys interacting with the critters!
Jack (11yrs.) is the afternoon barn chore foreman. He is always willing to conduct tours and tell visitors animal trivia. He is very well versed in alpaca information and great for catching and leading youngsters.
David (7yrs.) is the early bird of the family, along with Heidi. He is usually dressed and ready to go out to the barn by 6:30 AM. He is in charge of the morning feedings and chicken care. He also does a great job hosing the alpacas in the summer. David is all action - anytime there is something to fix or build, he is there.
Jim (4yrs.) is a champion at poop scooping and noting when his adult partner missed one! He is the barn swing champion. He likes the holes created with a posthole digger and finds fence building fascinating. He and the alpacas compete on the sand piles to see who will be crowned “King of the Hill”.
Our animals- We have chickens, cats, and two horses that are a part of our farm family as well. Most of our alpacas are full Peruvian with an emphasis on Alianza and Accoyo genetics. We have assembled our bloodlines from a diverse group of well known sires and grandsires, including Hemingway, 4Pachacuti, Caligula, Felix, Camilio, PCA Microsoft, Accoyo Peruvian King, Evander, Vengador, Accoyo Leon, Peruvian Dakotia, Yupanqui, and more.
We feel that the future of this industry is the continual improvement of fleece quality. We do this one breeding at a time. Genetics, management, and nutrition are the key ingredients of producing an elite fleece.
All together we provide individual care for each animal in our herd, regardless of who owns them. We try to spread some humor in our daily work and not take ourselves too seriously. We are very thankful for the blessing of all animals especially alpacas. We enjoy this industry and all the wonderful people we have met along the way. Thank you for your interest in our farm!
